Shree Cement plans to commission around 100 electric commercial vehicles (ECVs) during 2026 as the cement manufacturer expands the use of cleaner technologies across its logistics operations. The initiative is aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels while improving operating efficiency.
The company is also evaluating the use of electric dumpers and dozers for mining operations, extending its electrification plans beyond road transportation. Alongside electric mobility, Shree Cement is exploring battery energy storage systems (BESS) at selected locations.
Shree Cement Plans 100 Electric Commercial Vehicles
Shree Cement has committed to commissioning approximately 100 electric commercial vehicles during the current year. The vehicles will support the company's logistics activities and form part of its broader efforts to reduce conventional fuel consumption.
According to the company, the fuel cost of electric commercial vehicles can be around one-tenth of comparable diesel-powered vehicles. This could help reduce operating costs in logistics operations while supporting the company's fuel-efficiency efforts.
Electric Vehicles for Mining Operations
Shree Cement is also exploring electrification in its mining activities. The company is evaluating the potential use of electric dumpers and dozers, which are used for material handling and other mining operations.
This would extend the company's electric mobility programme from commercial transportation into heavy equipment used within its manufacturing and mining operations.
Renewable Energy Share Reaches 66%
Shree Cement's electrification plans are part of a wider focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy. The company reported that the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix increased from 61% to 66% during the last quarter.
The company has also started small-scale deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at selected locations. These installations are being evaluated for their potential wider application.
Shree Cement Works on Logistics Efficiency
Along with electric vehicles, Shree Cement is working on improving the efficiency of its logistics network.
The company's average logistics lead distance declined from 459 km to 445 km during the quarter. Rail accounted for approximately 9% of volumes, while the company is also pursuing railway siding projects under the Gati Shakti framework to improve freight movement.
These measures are aimed at reducing transportation distances and improving the efficiency of the company's distribution network.
Shree Cement's Sustainability Initiatives
Shree Cement's sustainability efforts also include resource and water efficiency. The company maintains Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) across its manufacturing operations, with treated wastewater reused within its facilities.
Its manufacturing plants use the dry process of cement production, which requires less water than the traditional wet process.
The planned deployment of electric commercial vehicles, exploration of electric mining equipment and BESS trials form part of Shree Cement's broader efforts to reduce conventional fuel use and improve operational efficiency.
Shree Cement Expands Clean Technology Adoption
The planned commissioning of around 100 electric commercial vehicles in 2026 marks another step in Shree Cement's adoption of cleaner technologies. The company is simultaneously evaluating electric mining equipment, battery energy storage and more efficient freight movement.
With renewable energy accounting for 66% of its energy mix in the reported quarter, Shree Cement is combining electrification with renewable energy and logistics-efficiency measures across its operations.
