Borosil Renewables to Increase Solar Glass Capacity to 1,600 TPD
Borosil Renewables has approved a revised investment of ₹1,100 crore for its solar glass capacity expansion at its Bharuch facility. The project will add 600 TPD through two new furnaces, taking the company's total solar glass manufacturing capacity from 1,000 TPD to 1,600 TPD.
The two new furnaces, SG-4 and SG-5, will each have a capacity of 300 TPD. The expansion represents a 60% increase in Borosil Renewables' existing solar glass capacity.
Project Cost Revised to ₹1,100 Crore
The estimated cost of the solar glass expansion has increased from the earlier ₹950 crore to ₹1,100 crore, representing an additional outlay of ₹150 crore.
The company has attributed the higher cost and delay to supply-chain disruptions, exchange-rate fluctuations, higher commodity costs and geopolitical developments affecting the project. The additional ₹150 crore is planned to be funded through internal accruals.
The commissioning timeline has also been revised. The new furnaces, which were earlier targeted for commissioning by December 2026, are now expected to be commissioned by March 2027.
Borosil Scientific Expands Glassware Manufacturing
Separately, Borosil Scientific is expanding its glassware manufacturing operations in Bharuch, Gujarat. The company has revised its plans for a new manufacturing facility with dedicated mass-production lines.
The project is designed to increase annual glassware production capacity from around 15 lakh units to 108 lakh units. Commercial production is targeted for March 2027.
The facility is intended to support growing sourcing requirements for glassware products, including products supplied to Borosil Limited.
₹60 Crore Glassware Expansion
The reported investment for the Borosil Scientific expansion is ₹60 crore, with the project expected to significantly increase production capacity at Bharuch. The company's existing glassware operations are running at around 87% capacity utilisation, according to the latest report.
The expansion will support production of glassware products such as drinking glasses, storage jars, glass jugs and bottles, for which the group has reported growing demand.
Two Manufacturing Expansions in Bharuch
Although the two projects serve different markets, both are focused on increasing manufacturing capacity in Bharuch, Gujarat.
Borosil Renewables is expanding its solar glass production to support the growing solar manufacturing industry, while Borosil Scientific is increasing glassware production to meet rising demand for consumer and household glass products.
